The best teachers are driven by a passion for learning. The best art teachers are driven by a passion for art. The best artists are skilled in both the formal and the conceptual aspects of art. Not all artists are good teachers, but the best art teachers are artists. The creation of new generations of artists and those who will support and appreciate the arts is best done by artists themselves, either in the classroom or through their art work. Art education majors at SFASU take on the important and challenging dual roles of student artists and pre-service art teachers. Plan III is a BFA degree in studio art with a curriculum that leads to all- level (K-12) certification in art. The requirements are 54 hours of studio,12 hours of art history, and 24 hours of professional education.
