Exhibitions for the 2016–2017 season

  • The Beautiful Gary Q. Frields Art Show & Sale

    August 4–27
    The Cole Art Center, Reavley Gallery

    Works of the late artist and Stephen F. Austin State University art professor Gary Frields will be shown Aug. 4 through 27 in Reavley Gallery, with a reception hosted by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. Known among his peers as a great advocate for SFA’s art students, Frields taught courses in design, drawing and sculpture and served as graduate program coordinator for the School of Art before his retirement in 2012. At the close of the show, the remaining artwork will be moved to the Culinary Café on the SFA campus.

    The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House

    The Annual School of Art Faculty Exhibition at Stephen F. Austin State University, featuring a separate show by Jeffie Brewer, assistant professor of sculpture and drawing, opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

    Artist and SFA School of Art faculty member Jeffie Brewer lures the viewer into a number of works recalling that "things aren't always what they seem." An opening reception takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 8 in The Cole Art Center.

    The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House

    Just in time for the 2016 presidential election, this multi-media exhibition will focus on social and political themes, including political campaigns, environmental concerns, education, immigration, human rights, trade, globalization and other contemporary concerns. A reception is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Cole Art Center.

  • Juan de Dios Mora exhibition

    January 26–March 9
    The Cole Art Center, Reavley Gallery

    An exhibition of work by artist Juan de Dios Mora features finely detailed block prints, revealing the artist’s Mexican culture combined with his experience as an immigrant and American citizen living near the border. The artist will be present for the exhibition’s closing reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9. The show is sponsored in part by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts, the Nacogdoches Junior Forum and the Texas Commission on the Arts, which is the state affiliate for the National Endowment for the Arts.
