Biography
William Arscott is the senior member of the Art faculty. Professor Arscott has worked in many artistic fields, including: ceramics, painting, print making, sculpture and cinematography. Distinguished both as an artist and educator, William Arscott has been recognized and awarded many honors, including Texas Senate Resolution No. 514, Outstanding Educator of America, Alumni Distinguished Professor and Regents Professor.
Artist Statement
Regardless of the media I work with, I want to portray human feelings and display them in an honest unashamed manner. In the past, I have had gallery representation and museum purchases, but I no longer pursue those avenues. I do some conventional art, but my main pursuit within the art field is that of producing movies.
Teaching Philosophy
In teaching, I believe in encouraging and pushing a student to create work that is to the best of his or her ability. I try to be honest with students on a one to one bases and in open critiques. In the field of cinematography there are many artistic and technical problems to be learned. My duty as a professor, is to teach them these facets. It is my objective that all the students who graduate from the cinematography emphasis, will be professionally qualified, work within the field, and become outstanding film makers.
