Galleries

With galleries on campus and in downtown Nacogdoches, we strive to bring high quality art to the university and local community. Entrance to all gallery events are free of charge. See each gallery for hours of operation and current programming.

The Cole Art Center

The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, is a renovated former opera house from the 1880s located downtown on Main Street in Nacogdoches. Exhibitions are presented year-round of international, national and regional art in three main galleries on two floors. The Cole Art Center also features the Friday Film Series, typically on the first Friday of the month, plus poetry readings and special events. All events are free to the public.

The Cole Art Center is host to a number of special events, including the Texas National annual juried competition and exhibition. Special events held at the Cole Art Center must be sponsored by the university, and are approved under the Gallery Usage Policy.

Griffith Gallery

Griffith Gallery provides 134 running feet of exhibition space (22’ × 54’ with 10’ ceiling). It is across the hall from SFA’s 1,000-seat Turner Auditorium and is often open on nights of performances in Turner Auditorium.

Student Galleries

Two additional art galleries are operated in the School of Art building on Wilson Avenue. These galleries are reserved primarily for BFA/MFA exhibitions, critiques, and special events. Occasionally, visiting artists are also shown. Hours vary according to scheduled events.
