The Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 East Main Street, is a newly renovated 10,238 square foot downtown Nacogdoches building. The first floor contains a 2,933 square foot gallery, which contains a 120" x 160" drop-down screen. There is also a storage room and kitchen. The second floor contains a 1,332 square foot gallery with a 65" x 116" drop-down screen, a conference room with a 54" x 96" drop-down screen, two offices and a storage room. Exhibitions are presented year-round and are planned by the SFA Gallery Director. Fundraising is continuing to build an endowment that will support the exhibitions, pay for the daily operations and create a new Assistant Director/Curator of Public Programming. Individuals and groups from the university and the community are able to schedule social and educational events which are approved under the Gallery Usage Policy. Gallery hours are 12:30 - 5 p.m., Tuesday - Sunday.
Threads of Culture: Andean Textiles through Time: October 12 -December 10, 2007
A fine collection of ceremonial textiles to more modern articles for attire, this exhibition of beautiful and functional textiles features the resourceful work of Andean weavers of the lands now generally defined by the borders of present-day Bolivia and Peru.
