Filmmaking Program: Hands-on Experience

Spring Vignettes

During spring semesters, students from the advanced classes will produce a series of vignettes from selected scripts written in previous terms. The vignettes are a simulation of a professional production day. Every student is assigned a specific job for the day from director to production assistant.

Vignettes are structured to mimic a real-world set as closely as possible using professional jargon, cameras, audio, lighting and rigging equipment. The vignette actors are usually cast from SFA School of Theatre acting courses.

Summer Feature Program

For over 10 years, the filmmaking department has offered a class in the Summer I session that produces an independent full-length feature film. Students spend every day on set learning from visiting alumni with industry experience.
